Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which is scheduled to come out on Feb. 21, 2014, will allow players to play as Cranky Kong. The announcement was made after the official box art was leaked with Cranky on the cover alongside Donkey, Diddy and Dixie. Cranky has long been a fixture in past Donkey Kong games, but he’s mostly used for humor and hints, and not as an actual playable character.

When he does make an appearance in Tropical Freeze, Cranky Kong will have the ability to bounce on his cane as his main attack move. Retro, the game’s developer, showed Cranky Kong in action at the VGX on Saturday, and it looks absolutely awesome. Donkey Kong titles are notoriously challenging—but fun—so we can likely expect that same approach once Tropical Freeze launches early next year. Bring it.
