Google Search on Android Now Searches App Content, Too

App Indexing

Google recently upgrades its search engine on Android to also include search results that might be available inside of an application.

In one example, Google shows how a query for “James Stewart Holiday M0vie” will return results on the web from IMDB; but, below that IMDB link, is a new option to “open in app.” Then, it will automatically execute the search inside the IMDB Android app and return your results. Additionally, you can use Google search to find apps with a new app listings feature. So, if you search “Downhill ski apps,” you’ll find search results for applications that are available for download inside of Google Play.

Google says the features are rolling out now on Android, specifically into the Google Search Android application, but it will also automatically work inside of the Android or Chrome browsers on Android. The company says it hopes to add more features in the coming months.
