Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games has announced that its retro-style platformer has been pushed back a few months. A Twitter post on the developer’s page states that “early 2014 seems like a much more likely release date.”
Fans have been expecting the game to be released late in 2013, but after it quadrupled its requested funding on Kickstarter, the game has grown beyond its intended scope. Multiplayer, additional campaigns to play as bosses, and further challenges have been added and need some extra time for programming.
Shovel Knight also secured funding to release beyond its originally intended PC platform, and it will see the light of day on the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, Linux, and Mac. The ports, as well as fine polishing, are also contributing to this slight delay.
Take your time, Yacht Club Games. We’ve got nothing but time on our hands, and this one looks like it will be a grand slam for Kickstarter’s reputation. Make every second count.
