Instagram Saw Record Traffic On Thanksgiving Day

Instagram this week announced the double celebration—Thanksgiving and the first full day of Hanukkah—lead to the photo-sharing service’s busiest ever day. Last year, Instagram enjoyed a similar milestone on Thanksgiving, revealing users shared over 10 million photos of family, stuffing and, of course, turkey—for those keeping track, that’s around 200 images shared per second during a 24-hour period. It appears the might of two celebrations at the same time helped push Instagram to even greater heights.

The social network didn’t reveal just how many photos were shared this time around, but you have to imagine it was a great deal more. Given the rate at which Instagram has grown—not to mention the app is now available to Windows Phone users—it’s no surprise the platform is again seeing record numbers. Even if you despise photos slathered in filters, it’s nice to see so much holiday cheer being spread around from user to user. With ads now implemented into the service, Facebook’s $1 billion investment is likely beginning to pay off in spades.
