Katie Couric, yes that Katie Couric from ABC World News, Today, Nightline, Good Morning America and other frequently viewed news services, is joining Yahoo as the “face” of Yahoo News.
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer officially announced the news today, noting that Couric will join as the company’s “global anchor.” Yahoo recently picked up another well known name in news, David Pogue, from The New York Times, though this is a bit more stunning. Clearly, Yahoo is trying to create its heavy-hitting news source.
“In addition to being the face of Yahoo News and shooting features for our homepage, Katie will continue to host her syndicated daytime talk show, Katie,” Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer said. Couric’s role will begin in early 2014, and she’ll also lead a “growing team of correspondents” for the Yahoo News vertical.
Mayer said this is “just the beginning,” of Yahoo’s goal to create “the best content and video experiences available.” We’re curious who else will join the team, since clearly Yahoo is going for some of the best names in news.
