Google’s slowly releasing Android 4.4 KitKat to the Google Play Edition devices, which most people assumed would receive the update ahead of other phones, such as the Moto X. AndroidCentral confirmed the over-the-air update is indeed rolling out now in the form of a 320GB patch.
Since it’s being rolled-out right now, that means some people might have it already while others will need to wait a bit longer, though hopefully not too long. AndroidCentral said that, unfortunately, you won’t find the new stock launcher in the update, which is available on the Nexus 5, and you’ll still have the old one. It’s a bit of a bummer that Google has decided to take this path, since it seemed to suggest that any Google Play Edition device would get the same exact software as Nexus devices (and at the same time).
The good news is, if you don’t have the over-the-air update just yet, you can sideload it by following the source link below.
