Gran Turismo is one of the most notorious series in the video game world for taking its sweet time to be released. Fans of the series are known for waiting up to half a decade for the next entry, a figure that even naysayers of annual releases find a little too long for comfort.
Gran Turismo 6 hasn’t even been released yet, with a locked launch date of Dec. 6, and already studio head Kazunori Yamauchi has made a bold prediction for Gran Turismo 7.
Speaking with Top Gear, Yamauchi claims that Polyphony Digital could have the game finished by as early as next year.
“We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7,” he says. “Best-case scenario? Next year. In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 percent to maximize the PS3’s architecture, but of course the PS4’s hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it.”
Very bold statement indeed, considering the series’ history of taking its time to get things perfect. Think Polyphony is up to the task of getting it finished by that date, and if they do, how good will the final product be?
Gran Turismo 6 will be released for the PlayStation 3 on Dec. 6.
