Dragon Quest Trademarks Suggest Two Possible Localization Titles

Dragon Quest VII

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Dragon Quest game come to America. Square Enix found a nice little groove bringing them over one at a time, but that came to a standstill in 2011 after Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation was released for the DS. It’s a shame too, because the series was finally catching on to an audience in the U.S.

A leaked trademark document found by Siliconera suggests that not one but two games in the series could be localized in the near future thanks to two suspicious English titles. Luminaries of the Legendary Line and The Seeds of Salvation both have been trademarked by Square Enix, and they fall in line with the typical alliterations used in subtitling the series.

Hand of the Heavenly Bride, Chapters of the Chosen, Realms of Revelation, Sentinels of the Starry Skies. Awesome titles, and the two latest fit in perfectly so there is little doubt that they are real. The only question is, which games do they belong to?

I will take a stab at guessing that The Seeds of Salvation belongs to the Nintendo 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII. Nintendo has been pitching in to get all the games from Japan on the Nintendo 3DS localized, and if Bravely Default is happening on foreign shores, then the best-selling Dragon Quest VII is only a matter of time.

The game’s plot revolves around rebuilding a destroyed world by helping people solve problems and planting “seeds” of hope, so the title would be self explanatory.

Luminaries of the Legendary Line has got me totally stumped, though. It could mean Dragon Quest X, but I don’t know enough about it to make any connections. The only other game out there now is Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D, which already has a sufficient English title.

Dragon Quest Trademark

Dragon Quest X has not been confirmed for an English release, nor do I think Square Enix has any intention to. The Wii U’s following is not big enough yet to support a full-fledged MMORPG, nor does the company want to cut into its Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn dollars now that that game is finally standing on its own two feet.

“Line” to me suggests a touch screen game, possibly meaning an unannounced mobile game featuring a line drawing mechanic. Either that or a lineage “line,” but the only game to deal with descendants is Dragon Quest V, and that already has been localized.

I’m going to rack my brain over that one for a while, but I’m confident in my first guess. Trademarks have revealed each of the DS localizations to this point, so Dragon Quest VII: The Seeds of Salvation will be your Q3 2014 JRPG release from Square Enix.

From what I’ve heard, it’s really good too. It’s everything the PlayStation version did right, and not stretched into a 120 hour game.
