Android Figure - Google, Nexus 4

Nexus 4 owners have waited three long weeks to download Android 4.4 KitKat, but today Google’s new OS is finally arriving on the 4.7-inch stock Android device. Starting late last night, Android Central reported receiving multiple tips that the software update had started, with one person even tweeting a photo as evidence.

After launching alongside the Nexus 5 last month, Android 4.4 KitKat has been slow to arrive on Google’s other devices, despite promises that the new OS would quickly land on the Nexus 4,7 and 10. Yesterday, Motorola announced that the software update had begun to roll out for the Moto X on Verizon, and today it looks like Google has followed suit with the Nexus 4.

Google’s updated operating system includes emoji, an improved dialer app, and integration for SMS in Hangout and other tweaks. The biggest improvement is direct access to Google Now, which you can launch in Android 4.4 by swiping to the left from the home screen or by simply saying “Ok Google” when your phone is within earshot.
