Instagram just launched for Windows Phone and there’s a huge amount of confusion as to how it works and what you can do with it. The company specifically told The Verge, ZDNet and several others that were briefed that “you cannot take a photo with the app.” That’s not true, though, and we’re wondering why the reps at Instagram had this messed up.
We just launched the application to give it a whirl for a hands-on, and you can indeed take pictures, it’s just a bit of a roundabout way of doing it. First tap the camera icon, which brings you to your camera roll, then, and most users might not do this, tap it again. This brings up your camera viewfinder, which you can use to snap a photo. Once you’ve captured your image, hit “Accept,” then scale and crop it and publish it.
We just did it ourselves and it works perfectly fine. Instagram should probably try to get this message out ASAP, since it seems like there’s a lot of confusion about what you can and can’t do with the app.
