Motorola just emailed TechnoBuffalo alerting us that the Verizon Wireless Moto X will start receiving the latest version of Android, 4.4 KitKat, starting today. It will roll out in phases, so everyone won’t see the over-the-air update at once, but we’re impressed it’s hitting so soon. The email specifically reads:
We’re excited to announce that Android 4.4, KitKat will be rolling out in phases to Moto X on Verizon Wireless starting today! Check out today’s Motorola blog post for all the details to share with your readers.
Android 4.4 KitKat adds several new features, including a new phone dialer, Hangouts with SMS integration, new emojis, quicker access to Google Now and more. Motorola said it’s also adding “enhancements to Motorola features like Touchless Control,” one of our favorite features, but didn’t say exactly what’s being added.
Verizon typically has a really strict approval process for software updates, so we’re pretty amazed it’s landing there first. The company promises that it will have updates on availability for other carriers and other regions soon.
