It’s not just you, YouTube is indeed down.
If you visit YouTube right now you will be greeted by the following message:
500 Internal Server Error
Sorry, something went wrong.
A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation.
If you see them, show them this information:
This is followed by a string of text that is impossible to decipher, but it apparently means something to developers.
There’s no word on what is causing the issue, or how long it may last, but our suspicions are with the number of people who work on the site it won’t be too terribly wrong. We’ll keep you updated.
Update 1: It came back around 5:45 p.m. Eastern time, but just as quickly it disappeared again.
Update 2: Once again the site came back to life around 5:48 p.m. Eastern time, and then once again disappeared.
Update 3: 5:51 p.m. Eastern, YouTube has once again returned, and this time it seems to be sticking around for a bit longer than the previous two times.
Update 4: As of 6:05 p.m. Eastern we have not seen any more dropoffs, so we’re going to call this one fixed.
