HTC took to Twitter this afternoon to confirm that the software patch to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat to the One Google Play Edition smartphone is ready to go. The company said it just needs to wait for Google to push the update through the Play Store to available devices.
As a reminder, HTC also said that it will update all HTC One units to Android 4.4 KitKat within 90 days, though obviously the pure Android 4.3 Jelly Bean HTC One Google Play Edition is easier to bring up to speed. It will take a few months to optimize HTC’s custom Sense user interface and get carrier approval, especially in the United States, before it rolls out to the standard edition.
Good news, we've delivered KitKat code to Google for HTC One GPE. Timing of push via PlayStore to be determined by Google.

We’re huge fans of Android 4.4 KitKat, and we’re glad to see it’s already starting to arrive on new devices. There are a ton of new features, which we covered on the day Android 4.4 KitKat was officially announced. If you just can’t wait any longer, we suggest picking up the Nexus 5, which ships with KitKat out of the box.
