Nintendo Network IDs for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS

The Wii U and Nintendo 3DS are about to get unified accounts.

Nintendo announced today during their Nintendo Direct presentation that users will be able to register their Nintendo Network IDs on both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Using the same ID will unify your platforms, and thus bring your eShop balances to both devices.

Have $20 on the Wii U and $10 on the Nintendo 3DS? After you unify accounts, you’ll have a $30 balance between them. Buy content on both shops and see your balance united and subtracted from. Finally.

The feature will come to the portable with its next update. Alongside this unified account system, the 3DS is getting its Miiverse at the same time. Register your Nintendo 3DS and Wii U under the same Nintendo Network ID and you’ll use the same Miiverse profile.

This unified account system has been a long time coming. We’re pretty excited for its implementation, how about you?
