Super Mario 3D World CD Art is Illegally Adorable

Super Mario 3D World

I’ve just noticed this, but Nintendo’s recent CD art for its games have been really good as of late. Remember the early days of the Wii, when its art consisted of a single color slapped against a white/reflective background, and compare it the recent art found on The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword, Pikmin 3, or this newest masterpiece.

The cat suit has seen a lot of excitement as the biggest new addition to Super Mario 3D World, and it receives front and center attention. Mario and his big nose get a close up view of a blue ball dangling in front of the plumber’s face, and what else would a cat do but swing its cute paws at it.

I guess Nintendo gets a lot of props for making me think that an overweight moustached creeper wearing some kitten cosplay resembles cute in any way, but there you go. They’ve been doing it for 30 years now, everything from racoons to frogs to bees.
