Google Hangouts at Google I:O 2013 - 06

Just before it announced the Nexus 5, Google held a separate press event on Google+ where it discussed updates to its social network, photos and more. One of the larger announcements that day was that Google+ Hangouts were going to soon support SMS integration. As of Thursday, it’s officially rolling out.

The latest version of Hangouts allows you to use the chat software to send chat messages or SMS texts. Additionally, the latest version supports animated GIFs, the ability to share your location, set your mood and more.

AndroidPolice noticed that the update is now available from Google Play, though everyone might not see it just yet. Thankfully, you can manually download the APK (if you don’t see the update in Google Play) by hitting one of several download mirrors that AndroidPolice setup.
