The first Galaxy S III phones began receiving the Android 4.3 update today after Samsung promised to roll out the new software by the end of October. SamMobile reports the update is only available in Ireland for now, though at this point it’s likely in the hands of regional carriers, too.
Samsung’s Android 4.3 update brings a number of improvements on top of Google’s own software, including Galaxy Gear support, a redesigned Settings app, a new lockscreen, an updated UI similar to the Galaxy S4, actionable notifications, driving mode and more. The Galaxy S III is also reportedly faster overall following the software update.
There’s no word on when the update will hit the Galaxy S III in other regions. As for whether the device will ever get Android 4.4 KitKat, Samsung has been quiet on which of its phones will get the new OS, though considering the S III’s age we wouldn’t get our hopes up.
