Will Motorola’s next smartphone be the Moto G? The mysterious device just made a brief appearance on Motorola‘s site in name only, leading to a dead website with the URL moto-g.com. The company quickly erased any sign of the Moto G, but now the secret is out.

The name suggests a Moto X spin-off, which is something Motorola promised shortly after releasing its current flagship. Just a day after unveiling the Moto X, CEO Dennis Woodside essentially confirmed a budget model was in the works, telling CNET, “We want everyone to have access to affordable smartphones… Moto X is the brand that we are most focused on. And there is more to come. You will see additional products within months.”

Since then, the mysterious device has leaked just a few times. Last month we saw an FCC filing featuring several photos of the rumored low-cost smartphone, which shared much of its design with the Moto X but also included a few key differences. What appeared to be swappable cases for the alleged handset also leaked in late August on Chinese social network Sina Weibo.

So is the Moto G actually Motorola’s rumored low-cost Moto X? It’s too soon to say with any certainty, but hopefully this latest leak will lead to even more information. Stay tuned.
