Apple CEO Tim Cook just made a revealing comment during the company’s fiscal fourth quarter 2013 earnings call. Cook didn’t specifically address any questions about new products, though he did say that “new product categories” are coming in 2014 and that Apple is “confident” it will happen. That suggests that Apple is indeed looking to launch something other than a new piece of software or a new iMac, iPad, iPod or iPhone.
To us, new product strategies suggests that Apple is eyeing an entirely new market. That could point to a possible iTV standalone television set, or perhaps the rumored iWatch smartwatch, or something else entirely. Apple has a lot of cash on hand that could be used to help create a new category, though the company will need to be strategic with its product. A bomb of a product won’t look very good.
We won’t read into this too much, but hopefully something great comes out of these comments.
