Dark Souls II American Beta Test to be Rescheduled

Dark Souls II was supposed to begin an in-depth beta test in North and South America, but it must now be rescheduled after reports of gamers on two continents being unable to log in.

Namco Bandai took to its official Twitter page to address the issue and then to apologize, announcing that the beta test would begin at a different date.

We thoroughly apologize for all of the confusion and issues. We will be rescheduling the Network Test for another date. Everyone who was in this test will be allowed in for the next Dark Souls 2 PS3 Network Test. Your spot is secure.

Kind of a shame, but signing up for a free beta test obviously has risks when gamers are playing with an unfinished product. Namco Bandai had already announced that this morning’s beta test was supposed to be a stress test on the servers, so if you got rejected, don’t feel too bad about it. This was the point of this morning’s test, not to be a free demo.

Did you get accepted into the beta but were unable to play this morning?

Dark Souls II was a lot of fun when I played through it at Tokyo Game Show, but from the little I played, I am having trouble holding it up to the high standards of the previous games in FromSoftware’s Souls series. We’ll see how it plays out.

Dark Souls II will be available on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 11, 2014.
