When Apple’s new iPad Air goes on sale next Friday, Nov. 1, participating Walmart stores will offer a $20 discount on the 16GB Wi-Fi-only model. That brings the price down to $479, which is not a bad discount considering the device is brand-spanking new—and by all accounts the company’s best tablet yet. If you’re planning on racing out to get the new tablet, Walmart’s offer should definitely be considered.

Walmart didn’t disclose whether the deal would apply to any other models, or even the iPad mini with Retina, and the retailer’s announcement suggests this is a one day only event. The deal is actually part of tablet trade-in initiative Walmart is advertising, which promises up to $300 for a person’s current tablet so long as it’s in good condition—that amount can immediately be put toward the purchase of a new device.
Apple’s new iPad Air sports a much thinner and lighter design, more akin to the iPad mini, and comes equipped with an A7 chip. Along with the device itself, Apple announced its iLife and iWork suites will be available for free for new customers, which adds a bit more value to your purchase. A $20 discount might not seem like all that much for a $500 purchase, but it certainly puts heat on Microsoft’s Surface 2, which starts at $450.
