In a very surprising and slightly confusing revelation, Apple on Monday announced that the company is keeping the iPad 2 around this holiday season—the device will go for $399 for the 16GB iteration.
Apple looks at have hit a home run with its new iPad Air, and then slapped everyone in the face by sticking with the iPad 2. Sure, the device itself may still be very good for the casual tablet user, but what about the iPad 4? By keeping the iPad 2 around, Apple is able to cater to two hugely different tablet markets; one that just wants to browse the Web and watch a few videos; and another that craves the latest specs and technology. At just $100 difference, however, you may as well spend the extra money to get the Air.
