Heart Machine and its wildly successful Kickstarter campaign for Hyper Light Drifter have hit another milestone guaranteed to cement the game’ success. Plus, it’s the stretch goal I was waiting for most. With 48 hours remaining, the campaign reached its $550,000 goal securing its release on the Wii U, adding another game to my long list of Kickstarter games mine will support.
Creator Alex Preston has promised another goal at $600,000, but as of writing, has admitted he might be out of ideas to expand the game. The best he could come up with was a B-side to the OST, maybe. A long line-up of guest speakers of indie game developers are on Twich.tv to help raise awareness of the game as it closes the finish line.
Preston originally requested only $27,000 for his vision, and the $550,000 mark put him well 2,000% of his initial request. Maybe his initial request was just too modest, or a lot of people really want this game. I can’t think of any other Kickstarter campaigns which can boast a statistic that impressive.
The final 48 hours are always the best, so be sure to check in on the Kickstarter page and watch the interviews. See our own in depth interview with Alex Preston as he explains what could be one of the most exciting indie releases of 2014.
It’s sad and exciting to see another of these exciting Kickstarter campaigns to come to a close, and nobody knows when the next Cinderella story will arise?
