Dead Rising 3 Refused Classifcation in Germany

Not to lose the limelight to their fuddy-duddy friends in Australia, the German Board of Classification, Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle, has proven that it too can be just as much of a killjoy to video gaming adults by refusing a classification to Dead Rising 3, effectively banning it from the country.

Microsoft confirmed in a statement to Destructoid that the Xbox One exclusive launch title would not be seeing the light of day in Deutschland.

Dead Rising 3 will not be released in Germany as part of the Xbox One launch line-up on Nov. 22 having been unable to attain an age-rating upon review by BPjM (Bundeprüfstelle für jugendgefährende Medien), the country’s entertainment software self-regulation body.”

Microsoft would not add if the game would be altered to meet the strict standards or as to why the game was denied a rating.

“While Microsoft is disappointed with this decision, we respect the views of the review panel and have withdrawn Dead Rising 3 from Germany’s Xbox One launch line-up. Dead Rising 3 will still be available in all other launch markets on 22 November 2013. Beyond that, we have no further comment.”

Surprisingly enough, Dead Rising 3 was one of the first three games to receive the new 18+ rating in Australia. The board took offensive to nudity and violence, but did not find sufficient reason to ban the game.

Capcom is counting on Dead Rising 3 to be a huge hit, scoring big with an exclusive on the Xbox One to compliment its free-to-play PlayStation 4 exclusive, deep down. The good news is that the Xbox One will be region free, so German players can still import it from nearby countries.

Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2 were also not released in the country, so maybe Germans don’t like zombies that much. I think the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle and the Bundeprüfstelle für jugendgefährende Medien might have some explaining to do about this one.

In America, we will be bathing in the blood and guts of the living dead by the thousands when Dead Rising 3 releases for the Xbox One on the console’s launch day, Nov. 22.
