Thief Gameplay Trailer – Freedom in the City of Chains

Fans of the Thief series have been on the edge of their seats wondering how the cult-classic stealth series was going to be revived. Eidos has been keeping the wraps on its gameplay for quite sometime, not wanting to incur the wrath of fanboys, but it has been giving hints that a few changes have occurred.

Put your fears or rest or confirm them now!

A new trailer has been released with a first glimpse at what is to come, and there does seem to be a lot of stealth involved, no question about that. I have never played the old games seeing as first-person stealth is not my thing, so I can’t especially tell where the differences and similarities lie. Did Thief always look so much like Dishonored?

Garrett leaps through the air like an acrobat, has a time-slowing technique, ranged weapons, extra senses, and what even looks like a teleport dash. His new character model too also sweats cliches in between his missions. Something tells me he’s into more nefarious deeds than stealing nowadays.

Let us know what you think below. Are you a fan of the old series, and do you love it or hate it? Or are you a newcomer who loves it or hates it? I have a feeling this is going to be one divisive title based on the series’ legacy alone and the generation gap between its audience.

Thief will be released for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on February 25, 2014.
