Rumblings from a recent Google Launchpad event suggest the search giant’s Nexus 5 (with Android 4.4 KitKat) is a lock for Oct. 15. That’s according to a rather brief report by CNET UK; no sources, anonymous or otherwise, are mentioned. However, the report does say KitKat has been a permanent staple at Google’s Launchpad festivities, which is really no surprise considering the company already revealed KitKat as Android’s next version.

We’ve seen a number of leaks regarding the Nexus 5 over the last month, slowly unveiling a handset that’s basically an LG G2 cloaked in Google. LG knows how to make killer hardware, and Google, well, the company’s mobile software is one of the best in the biz. While the search giant’s next flagship is very much known, we’re still not sure what to expect when Android 4.4 is unveiled; we’ve seen some very small glimpses, though nothing too revealing just yet.

Oct. 15 has been mentioned before as the Nexus 5 date, and it appears we can start circling our calendars (in pencil). The Nexus 4 has been sold out for a little while now through Google Play, hinting big time that a successor is on the way. Will we also see Google announce a new Nexus 10 at next week’s supposed event? Not long until we find out.
