Acer Unveils New 11.6-Inch Haswell Chromebook for $249

Following the news of HP’s new Chromebook earlier this week, Acer announced today that it will release an updated version of its own Chrome OS-powered notebook, starting at $249.99. The C720 Chromebook is currently available for pre-order through Amazon and Best Buy online—though not Google Play—with Acer promising the computer will launch in time for the holiday season.

Acer’s third-generation Chromebook offers a faster processor, and sleeker design than the current model. It features an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768-pixel anti-glare display and offers an acceptable 8.5 hours of battery life. The C720 comes equipped with an Intel Celeron 2955U processor, 4GB of DDR3L RAM and an additional 16GB of storage on its solid state drive. Unlike the HP Chromebook 11 and Chromebook Pixel, Acer’s computer isn’t packaged with a free terabyte of Google Drive storage.

Acer’s new chromebook also offers both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, along with an HDMI port and SD card reader. Unfortunately, the C720 is Wi-Fi only with no 3G or 4G upgrade options. The company says it has no plans to bring cellular connectivity to the chromebook.
