Samsung’s first curved smartphone has been outed by @evleaks, and the device isn’t what you think. Instead of featuring a curve straight across the middle from left to right, the handset is actually curved straight down the center from top to bottom; for those of you who remember grade school, it’s curved “hotdog” instead of “hamburger.” The handset essentially looks like a skewed S4 that got sat on.
The Korean company has already admitted it plans on introducing a smartphone with a curved display to Asian markets this October, so the idea isn’t all that surprising. What is surprising is that companies are so intent on introducing such devices; the added benefit, we’re hearing, is that the screens will have better viewing angles. Having never experienced a smartphone with a curved display, it’s unclear how drastically the experience will change. My guess is it won’t change all that much.
The device itself is rumored to sport a plastic display, rather than glass, and will be much more durable than competing handsets; it sure looks strange. Look out for this one to drop soon, according to the Oct. 10 date rendered on the screen.
