Flashback Friday: Grand Theft Auto

by Sean P. Aune | October 4, 2013October 4, 2013 11:30 pm PDT

Grand Theft Auto V has been out for a while now, but with the release this week of the online component it seemed like a fun time to look back at just how far this series has come.

The first installment in the Grand Theft Auto series was released in 1997 for the original PlayStation, home computers and the Game Boy Color, and to look at where it began, you have to wonder how in the world it ever got to the point where it makes over $1 billion dollar in sales in its first three days of release. Of course in the late 90s we didn’t expect quite as much from our games, and something like what you see in the video above was pretty darn amazing. However, as I now drive around Los Santos admiring the amazing sunsets and the bustling streets I think I will admire it just that much more.

You can hear a lot of the staff’s thoughts on Grand Theft Auto V on this week’s episode of Tech on the Range – and don’t forget to join the TechnoBuffalo Grand Theft Auto V crew for online play – but for now, just sit back and enjoy the video above of where it all began.
