If you are eagerly awaiting the Warcraft film, you might want to put your patience caps on and wait a bit longer. Legendary Entertainmet and Universal Studios have set an official release date for the film on Dec. 18, 2015.
Duncan Jones, director of Moon and Source Code, is sitting at the director’s chair, and he also shares screenplay credit with Charles Leavitt, who wrote Blood Diamond and K-PAX. A long list of producers holds one standout who might be recognizable to video gamers. Chris Metzen of Blizzard Entertainment and creator of Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo is getting a nod as a co-producer.
Filming is expected to start next month, and a teaser has already been shown. Legendary is going to have its work cut out for it when it comes to matching the high standards Blizzard always sets for CG. It’s still hard to watch that Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos trailer and believe it was released in 2002.
The film will combine both live-action and computer graphics, and Duncan Jones will certainly be bringing his own visual flare to the project as well. The extended amount of time needed for filming just goes to show how seriously Universal and Legendary are taking this project.
With a talented studio, writer, director, and original creator on board, might we finally get a good film based on a video game? We’ll have to wait two long years to find out.
