Fake iOS 7 Ad Claims Software Update Makes Your iPhone Waterproof

ios 7 waterproof

A fake ad claiming iOS 7 will make your Apple device waterproof is circulating online, leading some iPhone owners to try it out and ruin their devices. The ad, which is designed to look like the company’s own advertising, encourages users to upgrade to the new mobile operating system, before sneaking in this cruel joke.

While most of the fake ad is harmless, one paragraph begins with the title, “Update to iOS 7 and become waterproof.” From there, the following text claims that a new feature in the software can detect the second your device hits the water and instantly shuts off the power to prevent damage.

There’s so much wrong here we don’t even know where to start. First of all, if you throw a powered off iPhone into your bathtub it can ruin the device just as easily as if it were turned on. Water damage is water damage. So please don’t try it out on your own phone, and please use the full fake ad (below) for humor and not for evil.
