Sony Xperia Z1 Hands-On

Sony’s Xperia Z1, codenamed Honami, was just unveiled earlier this month at IFA, but we’re already hearing rumors about a follow-up Xperia Z2, allegedly codenamed Avatar. Specs for the Z2 first leaked out last week, with an updated list of specifications surfacing earlier today. Clearly, Sony isn’t wasting any time working on its next flagship handset, though fans could be in for a few month wait until the Z2 is actually announced.

According to a new report from Free AndroidSaS, the Xperia Z2 will come equipped with a 5.5-inch IGZO display at 1080p and 540ppi, the same Snapdragon 800 processor seen in the Z1, a 20.7-megapixel camera with Xenon flash, 3GB of RAM, a 3500mAh battery, and Android 4.4 KitKat. Meanwhile, an earlier spec sheet published on the Esato forums claimed the device would actually sport a 5.2-inch 1080p display at 500ppi and a 3200mAh battery.

Both reports claim Sony will unveil the Xperia Z2 at CES 2014 next January. The Z1 was introduced just a few weeks ago, suggesting that the Japanese company may be tightening up its product cycle in an effort to compete with Samsung, which currently dominates the Android market with an army of smartphones. The Z1 comes equipped with a 5-inch display, 2GB of RAM, a 3000mAh battery, and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS out of the box. Check out our hands-on video with the Z1 here.
