Nokia’s rumored Lumia 1520 phablet is expected to launch later this month running an updated version of Windows Phone 8 on a 6-inch 1080p display. Now, mobile leaker Evleaks is back with a bit more info, this time revealing the device will pack a 20-megapixel PureView camera. There’s no question that’s a powerful lens, but it may be a disappointment for those who hoped the handset would come with the same 41-megapixel shooter introduced with the Lumia 1020.
Enough FUD: Bandit has a 20MP PureView camera.

Last week, The Verge published a huge gallery of photos showing off the Lumia 1520 from pretty much every angle and placed next to the 5-inch Xperia Z1 for a size comparison. Yesterday, Evleaks also bluntly announced that Nokia’s phablet will launch on Sept. 26. Considering that the necessary GDR3 update to Windows Phone 8 isn’t expected until Oct., it makes sense that Nokia would announce the new smartphone several weeks in advance so the physical release can line up with the OS update.
With Nokia’s mobile division sold off to Microsoft, the Bandit may be among the final Lumia-branded devices we ever see. Hopefully the upcoming phablet, which is expected to come equipped with a Snapdragon 800 CPU and 2GB of RAM, can live up to the Finnish company’s legacy and put a cap on its line of WP8 devices. If Evleaks is right—and he usually is—we’ll know the answer in a few short weeks.
