Apple announced today that the 8GB model of the iPhone 4S will still be available for purchase. The 3.5-inch smartphone now costs $0 with a two-year contract, while the iPhone 5 has been discontinued. The news matches up with earlier prediction that the 4S would stick around, but still comes as a bit of a surprise.
The iPhone 4S comes equipped with 640 x 960-pixel display at 330ppi, 512MB of RAM, a non-removable Li-Po 1432mAh battery, and a dual-core 1GHz A5 chipset. The device ships with an earlier version of Apple’s mobile operating system, but will run iOS 7 as soon as the new software is released on September 18.
