Is Google about to follow in Yahoo’s footsteps by unveiling a new logo? It appears that way. At least, according to a new logo image that popped up in a beta version of Chrome for Android.

It was spotted by Ars Technica recently and looks flatter than before. The colors and overall design remain the same, however, and it appears that the gradient has been cut down a bit while the embossing-effect has been eliminated entirely.

The logo doesn’t yet appear in a live version of Chrome for Android and was instead pulled from the .APK file, which is used to install applications on Android. That suggests that Google could be gearing up to activate the logo at a different time, perhaps when it decides to roll out the new design across all of its properties and make an official announcement.
