With all the hype surrounding Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, it’s easy to forget that its prequel, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, is also still underway. As part of the whole Metal Gear Solid V experience, the side project has just as big of a image to live up to.
Konami has released a new preview of the game, including a motion capture video of actress Stefanie Joosten and the motion capture process she had to go through for Kojima Productions to create the character named Quiet, one of the silliest names in a Japanese video game since Final Fantasy XIII.
Regardless, the design kicked up some dust this week after Kojima said he was trying to create more “erotic” characters. He recanted his statement, indicating he meant to use the word “sexy” in the translation.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes might be focusing more on the gameplay than the storyline, but that doesn’t mean it won’t pack a punch. Kojima has stated that the game will be controversial in some of the themes it dives into, but then again, when hasn’t he said that? Shouldn’t be too far from the truth, though. Secret American military squads in foreign countries are not seen as very popular these days.
Big Boss will be returning as the lead protagonist with Solid Snake probably just being created around this time frame. The mission will see the return of Foxhound on one of its more sophomoric outings, already an established fighting force.
As for the gameplay, Big Boss will be hitting an open-ended world designed to warm up gamers for the grander experience in Metal Gear Solid V. The series has never been in a free roaming territory before, and giving into modern day conventions like regenerating health and mission based gameplay has a lot of long time fans worried. Hopefully, this one will ease them in slowly to the main show.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is scheduled to be the final games in the series released on current generation consoles. It will launch for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year.
