Surprising no one, Google will apparently introduce an app store optimized for Glass when the wearable technology officially launches next year. According to an apparent confirmation by Google to Marketing Land, the store, which was inadvertently outed in a Glass software update earlier this summer, will act similarly to other app stores, giving users access to different experiences based on categories, etc. The earlier leak labeled Glass’ store as “Boutique,” though it’s unclear if that name will be used once it officially goes live.
Aside from being able to easily snap pictures, take video, and get directions, Glass will need to have a compelling marketplace in order for consumers to see the gadget’s value. We’re still not completely sold on the idea of constantly wearing a companion device when it’s easier to just take your phone out. But that’s the dilemma all wearable tech faces. When we learn more about Glass’ upcoming Boutique store, we’ll be sure to update you.
