Double Fine has just announced where a large chunk of the $3,336,371 in Kickstarter money for its adventure game, Broken Age has gone. The game’s voice cast has just been announced, and it appears that Jack Black and Jennifer Hale are both returning to the microphones to record for the independent gaming studio.

Labeled as a Double Fine “family reunion,” Jack Black and Jennifer Hale both recorded voices in Double Fine’s heavy metal action adventure, Brutal Legend. Jack Black is of course a Hollywood star and co-creator of the comedic rock band Tenacious D. Those not familiar with Jennifer Hale can find her voice work in the Mass Effect and Metal Gear Solid games.

Also starring in the game are other Double Fine voice acting veterans Richard Horvitz, Nick Jameson, Grey Delisle and Cree Summer. Classic examples of wonderful voice acting like Psychonauts, Sam and Max Hit the Road, Brutal Legend, and of course Day of the Tentacle line up the credits in this cast’s resume. Double Fine founder Tim Schafer had a hand in LucasArts point-and-click adventures before beginning his own company and worked on each of those titles earlier in his career.

“We have been so lucky over the last 13 years to work with the best actors in the industry, and now we’re calling them back for a kind of family reunion,” says Double Fine’s voice director, Khris Brown.

The first half of Broken Age is expected to be released this coming January 2014 through Steam Early Access. The funding received through that will be put into finishing the second half of the game.

Broken Age has a lot riding on it, from being the first big name Kickstarter title to reaching the lofty storytelling standards set by Double Fine. Expect more from this game before it is finally released next year.
