Days ahead of Samsung’s Sept. 4 announcement at IFA, specs for the company’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch have supposedly leaked online. According to sources at Samsung’s Texas warehouse, the wearable accessory will get up to 10 hours of battery life on a single charge, and sport a 2.5-inch OLED display. The device will supposedly be Samsung’s big surprise flagship product heading into the busy holiday season.
We’ve seen smartwatches in the past, and Samsung’s device sounds like it’ll be a more souped up amalgamation. Under that 2.5-inch display, the device will reportedly sport a 1.5GHz dual-core chip, 1GB of RAM, Android Jelly Bean and Bluetooth 4.0. Sounds good—but what purpose does it serve beyond alerting a smartphone user they have a notification? In addition to the specs mentioned above, the Galaxy Gear will also allegedly sport a 4-megapixel camera for those envious of James Bond.
Samsung has already confirmed a Galaxy Gear is inbound, we just don’t know what will be so special about the wearable technology. We’ll find out in a matter of days, though, when Samsung takes the stage at its Unpacked event in Berlin on Sept. 4.
