When Google first announced the Chromecast last month, the search giant promised its new streaming device would work seamlessly on both Android and iOS devices. However, iPhone and iPad owners quickly discovered that it wasn’t quite that simple. Before getting started, Apple fans had to set up the service through their Web browsers. Now, Google has fixed the minor issue, releasing an official Chromecast app in the iTunes App Store.
The full changelog for the new iOS Chromecast app highlights what makes the dongle so great, before getting into a few specifics. The application lets you set up Chromecast on your Wi-Fi network directly from your iOS-powered device, and allows you to manage all your other settings including the device’s name and Wi-Fi passwords. The app should work on all versions of the iPad, all iPhones back to the 3GS, as well as all iPod Touch models going back to the third generation product.
