Here we have yet another game trying to be the king of what is becoming one of the most competitive genres on the market. CI Games’ Lords of the Fallen joins the likes of The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition in becoming one of the huge RPG releases of 2014. All of these games are so hard to keep up with, and given the size of the jump they are about to make, who has the time?
Lords of the Fallen has yet to really provide enough to make it noteworthy amongst the crowd. One thing it does have going for it is being an original IP, something which is rare in the next-gen RPG library.
The teaser trailer shows that it also has a nice unique aesthetic to it, ringing more closely to Warcraft and Warhammer than the Tolkien-esque worlds its competition leans toward. Perhaps a fresh look at fantasy is all we need from next-gen RPGs.
Publisher CI Games and its German development team have a long list of games to their credit, but nothing of real notoriety to prove they are up to the task of taking on masters of the genre like Bethesda and BioWare. Former Senior Producer of The Witcher 1 and 2, Tomasz Gop, is involved in the project though, showing that someone has experience on top of the line material.
CI Games puts the release in 2014 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
