AT&T on Tuesday announced it will expand its 4G LTE reach by 50 additional markets before the year’s up as part of its Project VIP Investment, which was announced last year. The carrier’s Project VIP also program promises to add more than 10,000 macro cell sites across the U.S. by the end of 2015, which should help AT&T to achieve 4G LTE coverage of more than 300 million before year-end 2014. With coverage already in 370 markets across the U.S. covering 225 million people, AT&T will bring its tally beyond the 400 market milestone. In all, over 270 million people will have access to AT&T’s 4G LTE network if all goes according to plan.

Today, it’s activating 5 new markets in Ruston, LA; New Bern, NC; State College, PA; Georgetown, SC; and Jayuya, PR. It’s also expanding markets in Atlanta, GA; Baton Rouge, LA; Shreveport, LA; Oxford, MS; Albany, NY; San Juan, PR; and Guayama, PR.

AT&T offers arguably the best lineup of mobile devices, and 4G LTE expansion will only help to attract consumers over to its network. The carrier most recently landed temporary exclusivity for Motorola’s Moto X Moto Maker feature, showing AT&T’s has a commitment to differentiating from the competition. Not only that, but it’s growing at an exponential rate.
