2K Marin’s The Bureau: XCOM Declassified has gone through a long and hellish development phase, but it is finally here to put all doubters to rest. The third-person shooter/RTS hybrid is being released this week, and the final trailer charges you with the bone chilling mission the young defense team will have to endure.
Earth is under attack by aliens many decades before the events of 2012’s hit strategy game, XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Can the young agency wage their secret war against the invaders with such relatively primitive weapons? Most likely not, so that is where strategy and thinking will overtake the bulk of the game’s drive, as well as some good old fashioned thievery.
Yes, to overtake your enemies, you must first acquire their weapon and technology to return the favor back into their faces. The game tells the story of how XCOM came to be and how the human race was well enough equipped to survive the early days of the true invasion in Enemy Unknown.
Survive, Adapt, Win. This game was labeled for dumbing down the classic strategy series into a third-person shooter, but by now, we know that this is no longer the case. Much like their own storyline, 2K Marin survived the initial backlash on longtime fans, adapted their vision into something we can all enjoy, and will hopefully come out on top with a win for its hard efforts.
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified launches on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on August 20th, this coming Wednesday.
