iPad 5 Back Appears Again with iPad Mini-Like Design

We know that the iPad 5 is supposed to take some design cues from Apple’s iPad mini. That means we’re expecting a thinner device with slimmer bezels and more rounded edges. It should, according to all of the rumors we’ve heard, basically look like a larger iPad mini. That’s why we’re not overly skeptical that new photos published recently could be the real deal.

The shots above show an iPad 5 case – there aren’t any internals yet – next to an iPad mini. You can see they look almost identical save for the larger body of the fifth generation iPad. There are indeed slimmer bezels around where the screen will sit, and we can see a Lightning port plug, speaker grills on the bottom, a slot for a camera (though no flash) on the back, and the volume controls on the top right. There’s a small rectangle in the iPad 5 body that looks like it could eventually house a SIM card, though we’re only speculating based on the small print we can see.

Apple will likely unveil its new iPhones during a Sept. 10 event in San Francisco, and we expect the new iPads will be announced during a separate event later. It’s possible we’ll see these in Oct. so that Apple can get them on the market in time for the holiday shopping season. MacRumors
