The Surface RT appears to have been a costly failure for Microsoft, but that may not be enough to stop Nokia from releasing its own Windows RT-powered tablet. The Finnish company is preparing to launch the new device next month at a NY media event on September 26, The Verge reports.
Pictures of the Nokia tablet, allegedly code named Vanquish, were leaked today to Chinese site Digi-Wo, showing a bright-red slate with branding for Nokia, Windows RT, Verizon and 4G LTE clearly displayed on the back. The Verge claims to have confirmed that the new tablet is set to launch in the near future, adding that “sources familiar with Nokia’s plans” revealed the device will come equipped with Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and a 10.1-inch display.
Last month, photos of an allegedly scrapped Nokia Windows RT tablet leaked online, suggesting the company had shelved the device at the last minute in favor of a full Windows 8-powered device. The new tablet bears a passing resemblance to the earlier model, which allegedly packed a Tegra 3 processor from NVIDIA, 2GM of RAM, a SIM card slot and ports for HDMI and USB.
