The new Nexus 7 isn’t exactly flawless, no matter how much we loved it in our review. We first noticed some Wi-Fi issues on our unit in the office, and several users have reported issues with the GPS chip, too. Now there’s a new bug to be wary of: multitouch issues.
Owners of the Nexus 7 (2013) have flocked to the forums at XDA Developers and Google Groups in order to report their troubles. ” I have noticed that any action requiring a touch and hold, such as moving an app or widget is often not recognized and I have to try several times,” a user who goes by the handle Greyhulk reported on the XDA Forums. Greyhulk was joined by several other people – there are 7 pages discussing the topic – who have similar problems. The hope right now is that it’s a software problem that can be fixed with a patch, instead of a hardware related issue that would require a new display or a swapped-out unit. Some users suggested that different third-party launchers solve the problem.
CNET found that Google has acknowledged the problem. “The Android team is aware of this issue and investigating,” a Google community manager for Android said. Hopefully the fix comes sooner than later.
