Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn continues to show off its impressive new look in a 13 minute trailer aimed at proving that this is a game worth investing in. Many questions still surround the game after being rebuilt from the ground up from the ruins of the worst received Final Fantasy in history.
Is it really that much better? What does it provide that the old game or other MMOs don’t? Will the subscription based payment method still work in this day-and-age of free-to-play? Is this the huge gamble Square Enix needs to take to turn its fortunes?
The game is currently in beta test in America, so we will have to wait until August 27th when the game officially launches to be sure, and then some time later to truly measure its success.
In the meantime, the trailers continues to look impressive and show a vast improvement over the horrible original. From the little I’ve played in the beta, I am tempted to give it a little bit of my valuable time.
Unlike a lot of longtime fans of the series, I enjoyed playing Final Fantasy XI back in the day and think this could be a worthy follow-up. The big difference here is with me rather than the game itself. I have moved beyond MMOs and somewhat of online gaming in general these days, and I need a big draw to pull me in.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is really tempting me to give it another stab. If it were free-to-play, I’d jump in headfirst. I still have a few weeks to decide though since it launches on August 27th for the PC and PlayStation 3. A PlayStation 4 version is due next year.
