“Microsoft by the Numbers” Uses Live Tiles to Show Off Growth

Microsoft launched a new webpage today within its main website, using the live tiles Metro UI to showcase a mix of its own progress and growth alongside fun facts about its offices and employees. Frank X. Shaw, VP of corporate communications, announced the new feature on the company’s official blog, promising to update it constantly and keep us up to date on everything from new services to how much soda Microsoft employees are drinking.

Turns out Microsoft employees at the main campus alone drink 2.6 million gallons of free drinks each year, almost half of which is Coke Zero, while eating 554,000 slices of pizza and 250,000 personal pies served up in the cafeteria. You’ll also learn that Microsoft donated $1 billion through its “Giving” program, and owns 4,728 pieces of art on display at offices all over the world.

On the business side, Microsoft is now boasting 400 million active Outlook email users, 170,000 apps in the Windows Phone ecosystem, 100 million Windows 8 licenses sold, and 11 billion photos stored on SkyDrive. Several key figures, including Windows Phone 8 usage, are noticeably absent, but above all else the new webpage may help remind consumers just how beautiful the Windows 8 live tile UI really is.
