CheapCast Turns Your Android Tablet Into A Chromecast Target for Free

Miss out on your chance to order a Chromecast before the initial stock ran out? Don’t want to spend $35 but still want to try out the Chromecast experience? Now you can with CheapCast, a free app that turns any Android device into a Chromecast “target.”

Unless you happen to have a humongous Android tablet lying around, the truth is that the Cheapcast is pretty redundant. A sample video shows how you can “Cast” YouTube videos from your Android smartphone to your Android tablet, but why not just load up the video directly on the tablet to begin with? The novelty of Cheapcasting from one device to another may be fun for a few minutes, but after that it’s probably not enough to make up for the lag and glitches that we expect with this new app.

Of course, CheapCast is free and there’s no reason not to check it out if you want to take Google’s new streaming service out for a quick test drive. Otherwise, you should probably stick to a Chromecast, which allows you to stream all of that wonderful content to your TV.
