Microsoft Unboxes the Xbox One; Now the System Includes a Headset

Microsoft has elected to, well before launch, post an official unboxing of the Xbox One. This is what consumers will see when they bring their system home from the store on or near launch.

Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb does the unboxing work within the video. Obviously, he’s very excited.

As the headline sort of suggests, Microsoft initially stated that it would not be packing a headset in with the Xbox One. That’s changed, obviously, as one of the few first items that Major Nelson pulls from the official packaging is, in fact, a headset. Back in June, Microsoft even argued against the need for a packed-in headset with Kinect as a proper substitute.

Here’s their comment to Ars Technica from June.

Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory. Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire.

What do you think of the Xbox One? The system will go on sale this holiday.
